Thirty-two teams entered week four’s play-in round, and half survived to join the finest teams from MFLS in the group stage.

Mark Chung Group

Two Brew City Teams won to join Jogo Feito and Carnival FC in the Mark Chung Group. Grass Pitch Please slipped past VFLs Huskers 1-0 on a goal by Adi. Former TO Castle Hill Comets finished tied with Seattle SC (I hate tournament ties) but advanced on an assist from Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Lubos Kubik Group

Blackburn Rovers FC dispensed fellow AAPL mate Hanscom City 2-0. Mattylip FC made it two from the AAPL advancing into the Lubos Kubik group, as they knocked off Sasha Juniors 1-0 on an Ike Opara goal. They join a pair of Brew City teams, Dudley Street Hooligans and Top Shelf.

Ivan McKinley Group

Another pair of AAPL teams advanced to the next round and into the Ivan McKinley Group, and both needed the first tie-breaker to do it. Knotted at 0-0, Damn Dirty Apes got an assist from Pedro Morales to eliminate Bond FC. Hounds and Hotspur finished 1-1, but Hounds notched two assists to one from the Hounds to advance past the 2012 champion. They join Redneck SC and Mohawks.

Miklos Molnar Group

The first tiebreaker was also required to send two teams into the Miklos Molnar group. After finishing 0-0, 3Rivers SC got three big assists to send Appleton Aarhus SC packing. Una vida contigo and Dynamo Kyiv YCK finished 1-1, but UVC advanced 3-2 on assists. They join a pair of Brew City powerhouses Weirder Bremen and Dynamo Silver Spring.

Miles Joseph Group

2010 Mug Champion SDFC Macross scored a 1-0 victory over 1 FC Red Devils on a goal from Opara. In the other match, it was 2011 champion F.C. Bayern Tampa with a 2-1 victory over Team Ramrod. They advance to join Arrows S.C. and Avengers in the Miles Joseph Group.

Troy Dayak Group

The Flying Bulbuls blanked Newport FC 3-0 to advance. They are joined by the Wolford Wolves, who hammered Barsovia 4-1. They are joined in the Troy Dayak group by the defending champion Real New Britski and Nguyenning.

Ariel Graziani Group

The Aviators, champions in 2005 and 2006, needed three assists in the first tiebreaker to make it past Warwick United after finishing 0-0. Madrid Sport Team swept aside Dynamo Salem 2-0. They advance to play The Laws of Lalas and El fútbol es así in the Ariel Graziani Group.

Digital Takiwira Group

The last group featured a pair of 1-1 ties that were settled in the first tiebreaker by a 4-1 assist ratio. Friends of Rob Friend eliminated EHS Wildcats. Low Expectations made it past giggitty. Waiting for them in the Digital Takiwira Group are Glorydaze and FC Byrd Turgler.

The first round of the group stage begins in MFLS week 5 on Friday. Please check my work! It will take me a little more time to set up the schedule, but I wanted to get the results posted quickly. I will post the schedule as soon as I am able, but definitely before Friday. I thank everyone for participating, and wish luck to the teams still in it.

Miles Joseph group looks like the
group of death. Four teams currently
in the top twenty, including two
former champions.

All the call ups and road matches crippled my team this past week.

Good luck the rest of the way.

I just realized every team in the Mark Chung Group has an MFLS
rank lower than me. I need smelling salts. I'm not used to this
rarefied status ...

Thanks, same to you! It's more fun when there's not a lot of
overlap between the teams!

The group stage kicked off on week five. For the first time since 2010, the group stage will be a double round-robin.

Mark Chung Group

Carnival FC staked out an early lead in the Mark Chung group, slamming former TO Castle Hill Comets 3-0 on goals from Martins, Dwyer, and Nguyen. Jogo Feito and Grass Pitch Please were knotted at one, both with goals from Rivero.

Lubos Kubik Group

Blackburn Rovers FC got past the Dudley Street Hooligans 3-1 to top the Lubos Kubik group. Top Shelf and Mattylip FC finished in a scoreless tie.

Ivan McKinley Group

Both games in the Ivan McKinley group finished in a tie. Redneck SC and Damn Dirty Apes ended at three apiece, while Mohawks and Hounds FC were tied at one.

Miklos Molnar Group

Wierder Bremen knocked off Three Rivers FC by a score of 3-1 to claim the early lead in the Miklos Molnar group. Dynamo Silver Spring topped Una vida contigo 3-2 on a goal from Martins to gain the early group stage advantage.

Miles Joseph Group

The Avengers bested F.C. Bayern Tampa 3-2 to start the group stage on top of the Miles Joseph group. Martin’s goal was the difference, as the Arrows SC kept pace with the Avengers, beating SDFC Macross 2-1.

Troy Dayak Group

Real New Britski and Nguyenning start the group stage on top of the Troy Dayak group with 3-1 victories over Flying Bulbuls and Wolford Wolves respectively.

Ariel Graziani Group

El fútbol es así roared past Madrid Sport Team 3-0 to claim the early lead in the Ariel Graziani group. Aviators beat fellow BCFA teammate Laws of Lalas 2-1, on a goal from Javier Morales.

Digital Takiwira Group

Friends of Rob Friend leads the Digital Takawira group after a convincing 3-1 win over Glorydaze. FC Byrd Turgler and Low Expectations finished tied at 1.

Please check my work.

Would an own goal count as a goal for
or a goal against?

That's a great question. The rules are silent on own goals, so essentially they do not factor into the scoring at all. I would like to introduce own goals as a "negative goal" in next year's tournament. I'll call it the Preston rule.
