much more of a toss up this year than most in my opinion. anyone can win it if the dominoes fall right. the odds are tempting for several of the longshots, but my gut whispers "Bruce Arena will best his rivals again." my gut loves Bruce Arena though.

I'd argue against that this is much more of a toss-up that most years, since MLS Cup has been a crapshoot for years.

Regular season performance doesn't matter, quality of the teams doesn't really even matter. If anything, I'd say the least likely champion would be either of the #1 seeds - especially FCD, who unfortunately I'd give pretty much a 0% chance, they're too good and too entertaining to be MLS Cup champion.

Obviously I'm rooting for Seattle.

If not them, neutrally I'm rooting for a FCD v. RNY final as I'd like to see teams that earned it and "best v. best" (best of the best, great movie) but I'm 100% positive that won't happen.

Official prediction: winner of Seattle/Los Angeles beats winner of DC/NE in the Final.

It's kind of ironic that the four traditional
powerhouses are the four lowest seeds and have to
play off tonight in the wild card games. The
winners then play the #1 seeds, I believe, so
we'll see how strong those #1 seeds are.

Seattle and Los Angeles meet for the 25th time tonight. This has been the most common opponent for the Sounders in MLS play with the Galaxy holding an 8-4-6 edge in regular season and 4-2 edge postseason (12-6-6).

Seattle-LA feels like it could easily be MLS Cup, not a first round
knock out match! I know LA has been slumping, but does seem
reasonable that whoever wins this game could sweep through
the West and into the final - where of course they will lose to the
Crew :-)

If I'm remembering correctly the Eastern Conference #1 seed has lost in the conference semifinals the previous three years.

and 2011 is the last time a #1 seed in either conference advanced to the final. The year before that was the famed Rapids-Dallas MLS Cup . . .

Like I was saying, crapshoot.

I have to admit without the mfls competition my
interest in the playoff games is a lot less. I've
been under the weather for a couple of weeks as
well. All of the sudden just walking across the
room got me out of breath like I had run a quarter
mile. It turned out to be blood clots and
pulmonary embolism, which is blood clots clogging
up your lungs. I was in the hospital for a day for
tests earlier this week. I've never been on
medication but now for at least six months I have
to give myself a shot in the gut twice a day plus
I need to take warfarin pills, which literally is
rat poison, which thins the blood. I'm feeling
much better now, almost up to trying a run, but I
don't remember ever being sicker. Monday I walked
20 yards into the clinic and the receptionist
asked me if I'd been running. I was out of breath.

Breathtaking bike by Agudelo, by the way. He hit
it right but DC isn't getting much possession and
they're not marking closely.

can't believe it's 1-1. NE could have been up 3-4 goals ...
