So I've been pitching in here and there on bigdsoccer.com for about a year and a half now, and I threw this out there this weekend/Monday. Want to hear what you guys think- it's a 2 parter.

The response to part 2 sums up what's wrong with the country. You can't give an honest take/opinion anymore without people freaking out.

I'm getting a wide range of feedback on this, ranging from outrage to kudos. Bobby Warshaw copped to the fact that he missed the satire of it initially, and instead, went into angry anti-gun defense mode. I think it says a lot about the state of the gun debate that some people thought I was serious about Toyota Stadium being locked and loaded for home games. Sheesh.

One thing I was serious about- it is an absolute travesty they're not marketing their team better, and they really should look into a dedicated marketing campaign to highlight the local roots of the team. That will bring out people to games who don't normally come- decades of provincial advertising success provides pretty strong evidence of that.

Also, the editor loves it- it's a web traffic driver.

Yup...that Bobby Warshaw. He's a good follow on Twitter. Solid writer.

the fact that people cannot recognize that it is satire is pretty sad. reminds me of when people angrily forward onion articles as if they are true.

Duffelblog is another one, always sad (sometimes hilarious) when people fly off the rails in response

No doubt...especially when I put this line in IMMEDIATELY after my 3 suggestions:

"This leaves us with the Homegrown plan, and if you guessed that the rest of those suggestions were made in jest, you nailed it."

If you google 'FC Dallas' right now, it's the top news story. I was thinking about adding some feedback tonight, but I'm hoping someone else explains it for them.

Nice job, FCBT. I enjoyed the set. Well written. I need to start reading more of your stuff!

I don't think you can look at only one issue and say definitively 'this is the reason'. I've learned never to deal in absolutes. There are in all likelihood several factors at play in the attendance, but I wouldn't discount location as a big contributor. I think the teams that opted for cheap land outside the city center wish they had a do-over.

Uh, no doubt about it on the location. Frisco neighbors the exurbs, and may be the furthest club away from the city center in all of MLS (maybe all of professional sports). Honestly, it may be the biggest factor.

I actually started scribbling on this back in April when Frank DeFord wrote his column about how people don't care about MLS, and it kind of went from there. The whole 'conservative' argument...eh, there's probably some merit to it, but it's impossible to prove or disprove the extent without good polling and another outlier to compare to. Sounds like a good college thesis.

hey guys, while we are soliciting feedback, remember that time
years ago i was a soccer blogger (with a terrible pseudonym)?

http://www.soccerticketsonline.com/sto-soccer-film-review-
victory/

not my best work (and i apologize if i shared it here before, i
have a bad memory from years of... dang, i forget), but Byrd's
post took me back to my own glory days as a soccer
muckraker and i wanted to share my most ridiculous post of all
time probably. back then the owner of that site paid me top
dollar for such "witty" posts. i'm not kidding either, the guy paid
me WAY too much to riff (badly) on things like Sly Stallone
films. in hindsight, wow, his business plan really sucked.

1. It was hilarious- I'm assuming you did all of the crystal meth before you wrote it up.

2. Pretty awesome you got paid for it.

3. It definitely is written your hand. Much like porn, I know it when I see it.

4. Wait...John Huston directed Victory? What?

pretty darn good Randall, well worth the read. I
never did see Victory, I somehow just knew it had to
be bad (even taking Stallone out of the equation).
Another Caine stinker was "The Swarm" (1978)
