Jaime Penedo was put on waivers by LAG today. This silly season is extra silly.

Am I wrong to have had absolutely no interest in the all star game? I stopped watching them when MLS switched to an MLS vs. 'Some Other Team I Should Care About' format.

I don't care about them either unless they switch to East vs.
West. Then just maybe I'll care more

I'm not interested either. Do they really need an
off week? The all-star game was a promotional
scheme years ago when it was the only game besides
MLS Cup that was broadcast on a major network.

I wouldn't care if it was West v. East either.

I've seen them all (because I'm not in the business of pretending to be a MLS fan) but the first two are the only two I had any real interest in, and I blame that on being a kid and not knowing any better. After '97 I thought and still think they should get rid of it.

Though if it stays - since I'll watch it anyways - I'd prefer a return to West v. East. I couldn't care less about a 5th place English team. I'm an American, I don't live in England and don't pretend I 'support' (insert foreign team I have zero connection to) ... I want to watch my Sounders and since I was a fan of MLS well before my city ever had a team, I want to watch the rest of the league also.

I can't stand the international friendlies either. Oh cool, foreign team A brought their scrubs and a name or two over to grace us with their presence for a meaningless exhibition match, awesome . . .

I understand the disinterest. I watched it passingly...mainly to see Kane (whom I hadn't really seen anything of) and to see how Yedlin fit in. I think it's spot on for a diehard to be dismissive.

As for the utility of the game, there's definitely still a place for it. I think it brings a lot more eyeballs in the form of non-MLS fans who are at least somewhat open-minded about the league at this point, and it might put a few more butts in seats or watching MLS games at home for the rest of the season.

For the diehards, this was an exceptional read this week. http://www.si.com/longform/2015/mls/index.html

That article reminded me of the mailing lists I was on in 1995, specifically the MLSLA mailing list which seemed to be the most informed of them.

It had all the rumors for team names (e.g. "Dallas is likely to be either the Express or Burn") and player allocations (at one time Valderrama was linked to Columbus) and so on.

The reactions when the team names were finalized and after the uniform unveiling were hilarious.

I printed out some of those pages and have them saved with my old MLS media guides (1996, 1997, etc) in a box somewhere around here.

So Gerrard and Keane not listed on the MLS injury report, but both are questionable. Giovinco is listed as probably by MLS, but the Greg Vanney interview on Sportsnet isn't nearly as sanguine. Should make for some interesting decisions between now and tomorrow.
