The Masters Tournament began in 2009, and has become a long standing MFLS tradition. It is a late-season tournament that is open to teams by invitation only. The tournament will begin on MFLS week 14. To qualify a team must have finished the MFLS season in the top twenty-five at least once in its career. This year there are eight-one teams that qualify. That list is posted on the tournament web site:

The Masters, as the names suggest, takes on a golf format. A team’s MFLS points are ranked each week (each “hole”) highest to lowest. The top score is given a double- eagle (-2), the next best an eagle (-2) or birdie (-1), most will get a par (0), and the worst scores a bogey (-1) or double-bogey (-2) or even a triple-bogey (-3). At the half-way mark the bottom teams are cut and the rest play on. After eighteen holes the lowest score wins. For full rules consult the web site:

If you qualify and would like to participate in The Masters please post here or send an e-mail to arrows.sc@brewcityfa.org. If your team does not qualify, I am sorry, but you will not be eligible to participate. I will require a minimum of 25 teams to run the tournament.

Please note that the Masters eligible list is based on the manager's name. That name may be spelled differently throughout the years and as such it is prone to error, or a manager may have experienced a name change. If you feel you should be on the list please do not feel slighted and let me know.

I have noted the managers that I believe are participating in MFLS this year and those that I believe are not based on my name searches. Again, this is subject to the same error as I describe above. Please forgive any errors.

Last year’s tournament was the biggest blowout we’ve ever witnessed. FC Chunkers took the lead on the seventh hole and cruised all the way to a ten stroke victory. Chunkers is not participating in MFLS this season, leaving hope for the rest of us.

Here are the previous Masters Tournament winners:

2014: FC Chunkers (Division of Great Significance)
2013: Top Shelf (Brew City FA)
2012: Top Shelf (Brew City FA)
2011: I <3 MLS (Soccer By Ives)
2010: Dynamo Silver Spring (Brew City FA)
2009: Elastic Norsemen (RevMFLS)

I hope you will participate and have fun playing.
